News has come out this morning via the Sydney Morning Herald that the likely English Premier League champions will make a visit to Sydney following the conclusion of the English season. It will be a great opportunity for the A-League to showcase the up and coming league to a world power. It’s likely that recent Australian footballing successes in the Asian Champions League and Asian Cup are drawing more serious attention from high profile European clubs.
The reports are working with a June 2nd date but nothing has been set in stone as of yet. A post season tour is unlikely to feature all of Chelsea’s top players but as one of the richest clubs in the world whoever is on the field for the giants will create a buzz in Sydney come June.
Reports indicate the Olympic Stadium – ANZ stadium as the venue. Sydney FC is also expected to be the only A-League opponent for Chelsea as they will not be partaking in the usual tour of a few cities as other big clubs have done in the past.
All things equal, seeing Jose Mourinho in Sydney will be a treat in of itself. Some great football and storylines will be a sweet bonus.
